MSX/MSX2

North American gamers may not be familiar with the MSX computer, however retro gamers in Europe will remember this gaming platform, first released in Japan in 1983. Before the Nintendo Famicom came along, the MSX was the platform of choice for many Japanese game developers. Perhaps halfway between a computer and a console, the MSX mainly used cartridges for its software library, but floppy disks were available as well. The MSX was to be a standardized computing platform with a Microsoft-based operating system, and various companies made computers for the MSX platform, such as Sony, Yamaha, and Canon. Konami's Metal Gear premiered on the MSX, and the platform remains a popular source for retro gaming.
