The PC Engine was the first videogame console to have a CD-ROM peripheral, and this was the most popular add-on peripheral for a video game system to date. The Mega CD had mild success in Japan, while the 32X was a failure. Similarly, the Atari Jaguar and Nintendo 64 DD were failures. However, NEC's console enjoyed much popularity with its CD-ROM and later CD-ROM2 titles.
