Shizuoka Hobby Show 2012

May 2012

This year, I was able to attend the Shizuoka Hobby Show! It was a pleasant surprise to discover that this event is much more than a company trade show, but it also had a huge exhibit area for individual hobbyists to display their works. Here are 200 images I took from the event. This page has the first 100 pictures.

Left: Underwater explorers discover a giant plate of gyoza. Right: The Vic Viper from Gradius!

Left: Chirico from Votoms. Right: Macross Valkyries!

Left: Beautiful camoflauge design. Right: The Miyazaki Mecha Modelers Club had an incredible exhibit, as the next several pictures will show.

Left: No idea which source this tank comes from, but it's cool. Right: Laputa robots!

Left: Laputa Flaptor. Right: Industria Tower from Future Boy Conan.

Left: Fujiko and Jigen from The Castle of Cagliostro. Right: one of the god soldiers from Nausicaa.

Left: No idea the source, but it's cool looking. Right: Vehicles from Future Boy Conan.

Left: Porco Rosso's plane. Right: The plane from Conan.

Left: Some chick "Albatross" from Lupin the 3rd. Right: Teto from Nausicaa (also seen in Laputa).

Kiki's Delivery Service and Laputa.

Howl's Moving Castle. Notice the incredible amount of detail!

More Laputa robots. Notice how huge the one on the left is!

Left: This Mononoke Hime statue marks the last of the pictures from the Miyazaki Mecha Modelers' Club. Right: The giant planetoid city from the second series of Yamato.

The above are all from the Yamato display.

A wonderfully lit-up Star Destroyer. This is the MPC Star Wars model kit, and it's been heavily modified. Notice the tiny Millenium Falcon hiding on the back of the command tower!

Left: the SS Andromeda from Yamato. Right: Even though the Star Wars prequels were a let down, at least the space ship designs were cool!

Left: Is that Hatsune Miku? Sometimes I can't tell. Right: I see some naughty Nazis who are up to no good!

The guy built this space fighter from scratch using Yakult yogurt plastic bottles. Cool, huh?

He also made these ships from junk parts. The one on the right used motorcycle parts.

He also made this space cruiser from junk parts. Extraordinary!

On the right is a Rilakkuma car! You could even call it a "Rilakkuruma!" :)

On the left are both scales of the Tie Fighter from Fine Molds and on the right is the Tie Advanced from MPC.

These two are also MPC kits.

Left: Hatsune Miku battling a giant crab to the death in a Power Loader from Aliens! Right: Vroom!

Left: Hina Matsuri Zeon suits. Right: an incredible Gundam diorama.

"No, go on, Lieutenant! Save yourself! I'm done for!" Big Zam: "Pyoo pyoo pyoo! Ka-pow!"

Very interesting and wild painting schemes. Plus a Mickey Mouse Gundam!

Left: There were plenty of great military dioramas, too. Right: Ewww! What's that?

Left: If you're going to put a Zaku on the crapper, at least give it a newspaper to read. Right: Lupin!

Left: Bubblegum Crisis! I'd forgotten that there were models of this made, too. Right: Another great Gundam diorama.

Right: Aura battler Dunbine.

Left: A trio of bad-ass Destroid customs! Right: More Macross greatness with Zentraedi Glaug battlepods!

Left: Isn't that cool? These wading Zakus remind me of that one episode of Votoms when the robots were walking through the river. Right: Science Team vehicles from Ultraman.

Left: I don't know who the girl with the sword is, but she looks cool. Is that Madoka Magica? Right: The Garland bike from Megazone 23.

It was nice to see Battlestar Galactica fans in Japan.

Laputa and Macross models.

Votoms and Dunbine.

Space 1999 and a weird, yet delicious-looking robot.

I've never played Xenosaga, but Kos Mos is just beautiful.

Great weathering detail on the Finemolds' 1/72 Millenium Falcon model.

Left: Leni from Sakura Taisen 2 and Cardcaptor Sakura. Right: neat SD Zentraedi battlepods!

Left: A Valkyrie on the runway. Right: Great detail on the engine!

Left: A Baltan Seijin and Ultraman that lit up. The Ultraman made noises via a remote control, made from Ultraman soundrop keychains seen below. Right: Another great diorama.

Left: This wild Diorama was called "The Cheat." Right: Snoopy vs. the Red Baron! Vroom!

More great dioramas!

A huge Star Destroyer command tower, complete with a Falcon attached to its backside.

Excellent lighting detail on a Republic Star Destroyer and a Corellian Corvette.
