Background:
Super Tetris 2 + Bombliss was originally released as a regular Super Famicom cartridge. Later, it was slated to be released as a Sufami Turbo game. I have an advertisement flyer that came with my Sufami Turbo that shows all sorts of new and upcoming games, and this game is listed on it. For some reason or other, that plan was scrapped---perhaps because somebody realized it was silly to re-release the game for essentially the same game system.

The Game:
As you can guess, Super Tetris 2 + Bombliss is two games in one. Tetris 2 is just a slight update to the original Tetris game. It comes in 3 modes: A, B, and C. A mode is just classic Tetris, minus the classic Russian folk songs we all grew to love on the Gameboy. B mode is not much different, but you can control the speed and height of the floor. In C mode, the dropping of every few pieces will trigger the level of blocks to rise automatically with a varied block pattern. You may have already played these versions of Tetris on those handheld LCD Tetris keychains and such.

Bombliss is the main attraction to this game. The typical Tetris pieces descend (and later 5-block pieces that force you to re-strategize how you approach Tetris), and some of these pieces may contain one or more red block. These red blocks are bombs. Clearing a row containing one or more of these bombs will trigger an explosion. Arrange for of these red bomb blocks into a square and it will give you a super bomb. If enough bombs are clustered together, chain explosions result. Super bombs blow up the most amount of crap, obviously. Another unique twist on classic Tetris is that the pieces obey the law of gravity. If a piece has nothing below it once a bomb is set off, it will fall down.

Graphics:
Graphics are fairly decent, with pretty scenery in the background. Some of these backgrounds slowly scroll by during gameplay.

Music/Sound:
Music really isn't one of the game's strong points, and it loops too frequently. The music to Tetris 2 is especially repetitive and uninspired.

Challenge and replay:
With several challenge options for each game, plus with the two player option for both, this game poses a great challenge.

The Good:
Two soid puzzle games in one package!

The Bad:
Probably the Tetris 2 music is the worst part of the game. I just found it to be repetitive and annoying. Also, I kinda wish I would be able to press up to instantly drop the pieces into place. I just came to expect that with Tetris games.

Overall:
Bombliss is the best reason to own this game. It's fun and gives a unique twist to typical Tetris. I find myself basically forgetting about Tetris 2 and just playing Bombliss every time I get this game out.
