February 2007
While on vacation in Japan for two weeks, I bought a whole lot of plastic models. I caught a bad cold while I was visiting my in-laws, and I was sick in bed for three days. During that time, after I had gathered enough strength, I started working on the Hyaku Shiki model kit I picked up at the new Mandarake location in Akihabara.
This model was a real piece of cake. No glue at all necessary, and the only tool I used was some fingernail clippers and a pen knife. When I got back home in the States, I finished it up. Not much painting was necessary at all. I just used a little gold paint to touch up where the parts had been separated from the runners, and also I used gold paint for the hose in the rifle. It would be silly to ever paint this model since it comes in a perfect shiny gold finish. I also used the stickers, which was mainly just for the eye visor. Fortunately, this model did not use the usual tacky stickers for the "hyaku" kanji on the shoulders. It actually used "Gundam decals" for those, which were easy to apply and look really nice when finished. There's also an extra hand so that the mecha can hold the beam saber.
