July 2006
Yay, here's my first Gundam. I'd built some SD Gundams from 0083 before, but those hardly count. But, those gave me an introduction to Ban Dai's injection molding, which fuses different colored plastics together, thus eliminating the need for painting (at least for novices like myself). This HG (High Grade) model of the V2 Buster Gundam also features the injection molding, so fortunately it didn't require much painting as a result. I just needed to paint a few parts of the upper legs blue, as well as the barrel of the long beam cannon. I used a Gundam Marker to get the detailing.
Up until this model, the only other robot model by Ban Dai was my Macross Valkyrie, and the hands on that model were klunky with holes to stick the gunpod into. This Gundam model has articulated hands with individually articulated index fingers. This is the way all mecha models should be. This model is also much more poseable. The thruster pack on the back opens and closes too. I'm happy with this model. Even though it's a typical snap-together model, I used glue anyways to keep it together better. This model is supposed to come apart into three pieces: core fighter, torso and legs. I gave up on this because I was getting frustrated with how loose the flaps around the waist were, so I glued them into position. But the V Gundam seems to have the coolest-looking core fighter I've ever seen.
I've never seen V Gundam, but I love this Gundam design. It's in the future UC timeline along with F91 Gundam, so this gundam sports a beam shield. The V2 Buster Gundam's coolest part is the rocket booster pack on its back, with the mounted beam cannon on the right shoulder and a missile pod on the left. Extremely cool looking. There is also a model V2 Assault Gundam which sports a wicked rail gun on the right hand, but unfortunately there is no model of the combined Assault Buster Gundam.
