A trip to Tokyo Sky Tree, part 1

July 2013

On June 29th, Mayu, Ulan and I took the shinkansen to Tokyo to visit Tokyo Sky Tree for the first time. It was a fun day!

The first place we visited was the Suica gifft store in Tokyo Station, celebrating the Suica Card's penguin mascot.

Next, we went to the basement level of Tokyo Station to visit the Gundam Cafe for a cup of coffee.

Lots of Gundam goods for sale there! I bought myself a set of Gundam chopsticks for my work lunches.

Here is the display for menu items.

Left: This Gundam face is on the ceiling.

Right: Here is the Halo Latte I ordered. Isn't it cute?

Next, we went to Ramen Alley for lunch. Can you imagine sending ramen via takkyuubin? I suppose the name of the place we ate at is called "Junk Garage." They specialize in rather lousy English-langauge music.

Left: I inspect my empty Gundam coffee cup. Right: Here's some of the dumb music CDs on the wall. I do like Harry Connick Jr., though.

Left: Here's my lunch. It really wasn't that great. I've had better. Right: When entering the Sky Tree from the subway level, I saw this sign telling me not to take photographs. Screw you, sign!

Riding the escalator up to the ground floor, we exited and looked up at the tall tower.

The first place we visited is the Donguri Kyouwa Kuni, aka "the Studio Ghibli store."

He also made this space cruiser from junk parts. Extraordinary!

)

Right: Next we visited a store called "Plaza." Is this what used to be called Sony Plaza? The font looks similar, except it doesn't say "Sony."

Left: I found a trio of Uglydoll wind-up toys: Ox, Big Toe, and Babo! Right: Snoopy Water!

Left: Shaun the Sheep is popular in Japan. Right: I wonder if Yo Gabba Gabba is on TV in Japan?

Left: Mr. Bean teddys by Ty! Right: Merchandise for the new Monsters' University movie.

Left: Women's T-shirts. Right: Are you ready for a Snoopy moustache ride? (Sorry, that was gross.)

Oh yay, a Jump store. Full of Jump manga I couldn't care less about. Oh look, some basketball manga I don't know.

...Along with Dragonball Z and One Piece (of crap). Whoopie. Right: a Tomica car store!

Right: A Plarail shop is right nextdoor to the Tomica shop.

Left: My daughter Ulan watches the toy trains. Right: these are inflatable train balloons. Neat.

They even had train shoes!

Our next stop was the Rilakkuma Store! YAY!

SO CUTE!
