All-Japan Model Hobby Show 2018

November 2018

Here we go! Another All-Japan Model Hobby photo gallery.

Kotobukiya had this life-size Border Break mecha on display.

Let's look at Bandai's huge booth first.

Left: The collection of 1:72 Star Wars kits so far. Right: Bandai's 1:1000 Blockade Runner will be released with the 1:350 Millennium Falcon.

Right: Bandai's astromech droid possibilities. These are not for sure kits, but rather possible releases. And of course, fans can make custom paint jobs of these. R2-M5, R4-M9, R2-B1, R5-A2, R2-Q2, R2-A5, and R2-KT.

Left: Here is R4-I9 which will be released in November. To its right are R2-Q5 and R5-J2. They're still proposals and do not have a release date set. Right: Bandai has released a flying R2-D2, one of the annoying things from the prequels. AOTC was such a terrible movie.

Left: R2-KT was created as a dedication to Katie Johnson, a little girl who was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor. I have this droid as an action figure. This is the sort of thing no parent would ever expect to happen to their child, and this droid is a memorial of a father's love for his daughter. Right: This is R2-A5. Remember this one? I don't.

Left: R2-Q2 is an astromech from A New Hope, seen on Leia's Tantive IV. This guy was one of the astromechs rounded up by stormtroopers when they captured the ship. Right: This is R5-A2, also from ANH, seen in Mos Eisley on Tattooine. He passes in front of Luke's landspeeder as they are stopped by Sandtroopers.

Left: R2-M5 is from the prequels, I was told. Right: R4-M9 was also rounded up on the Tantive IV.

Left: R2-B1 is also a prequel droid, I'm told. Wasn't he blasted while trying to repair Amidala's Naboo ship's shield generator? Right: R4-I9.

R2-Q5 and R5-J2 should be out in January 2019.

ROTJ version Darth Vader.

Here is the Empire Strikes Back version of the Millennium Falcon, due in January 2019.

A mirror was under the display to show that there were indeed 5 landing gear bays.

So here is the ESB and ANH Falcon versions next to each other. Are they identical as seen from the top? I'm not sure.

Here is Bandai's new line of Busou Neko, or "Armament Cats." I get a kick out of these.

OK, so here are the Yamato 2202 model kits. Right: dreadnought color variants.

Left: I bought this Ginga ship in September and it is gorgeous!

.

Here are Mecha Collection kits for the Ginga and the Cosmo Tiger II fighter, due in January. I do hope the latter will be made as a 1:72 scale fighter.

Mecha Collection Dreadnought sets 1 and 2 are set for release in Spring.

Neko Musume is a character from Ge Ge Ge No Kitarou. She's cute. I thought she had red hair, though.

Here is the Wave booth.

The VF-4 Lightning will be released as Max and Miriya color variants.

Moving on to the Platz booth, here is the big Moebius Discovery model.

I'm really looking forward to the 1:350 scale Klingon K'Tinga battlecruiser!
