Wonder Fest 2016 in Louisville, KY

September 2016

By chance, I was able to attend the Wonder Fest 2016 event in Louisville, Kentucky. Patterned after the Wonder Festival events in Chiba, Japan, this event focuses on SF and fantasy genre modeling. The main focus of this event, as with the Wonder Festival in Japan, is on resin garage kits. And of course, plastic models are a huge attraction there, as well as toys and figures. The big star of the show was the new Space: 1999 Eagle Transporter by MPC. I came as a guest of Brandon Lowe, owner of FreeTimeHobbies.com. I had built an Aoshima Knight Rider Season 1 K.I.T.T. model car with the front scanner light as a point of sale since he had both the model kits and the red scanner light add-on units for sale at his booth. I hadn't been to the USA in over 4 years and it felt odd to be back.

I was happy to see so much interest in the Alien franchise, as well as plenty of less popular subjects. This was a pretty cool experience, and I got to meet several people from the Starship Modeler forum, including John, the guy who runs the site. I also got to have a nice chat with Frank Winspur, the president of Moebius Models.

Here is a gallery of photos I took at the event.
