Me in Ginza

My Grand Adventure: Summer of '98

June 1999

Some people said I was crazy, once I convinced them I wasn't lying. Others were impressed and thought it was a great idea. And unfortunately, many people didn't understand why I'd want to do it. On July 13, 1998, I boarded a plane alone to spend a month's vacation in Japan.

This was a dream come true for me. After a scheduled group homestay visit with WYVEA was cancelled the year before, I decided that I might as well go alone and do the things I wanted to do, and see the things I wanted to see. And most importantly, visit the people I wanted to visit. I made my own itinerary, and I stayed for a week longer for less the price of the WYVEA trip. This page is a photographic diary of my journeys in Land of the Rising Sun.

UPDATE January 2011: This part of my homepage was left unfinished for quite some time. I've finally gotten around to finishing this with the help of the journal I'd written while on my travels. Some of this information is outdated though, such as the entrance to the Yoyogi Youth Hostel and such.

Week 1: Tokyo

Week 2: Nagoya

Week 3: Matsumoto

Week 4: Iijima Town
