Shizuoka Hobby Show 2014

Page 2

Here are the rest of the pictures from the event. Enjoy!

Left: Tamiya's New Beetle, done up for the JP Post. Right: Tee-hee. Ah-tee hee hee. It says "Fagot." I saw this in the flea market at the show.

OK, so now let's look at what was on display in the company showroom.

First let's look at Aoshima's booth. The first model you will see is this neat-looking deep sea submarine explorer. It's ready to hunt giant squid!

Left: Fancy tractor trailers like this one can be found in Japan. Right: Aoshima's new Lambourghini Avernator Roadster.

Left: This JP Post truck is tempting. Right: A fish truck. Just don't let Dad drive you and your girlfriend in this on your first date.

Left: The sign on this beef bowl truck says "Gyu-Donya," and was made to look like "Yoshinoya." Right: An Oden truck.

Left: A ramen truck. Right: The Falco and the Barracuda from Future Boy Conan!

Next up is Bandai's booth. Here is the new MG Ingram from Patlabor!

Right: A Rilakkuma train! I will totally buy this one when it is released! It's due out this month!

Left: And a Keroro Gunsou train is to be released in June? Oh my! Right: Here starts a whole lot of pictures of the new Yamato 2199 Mecha Collection series. The Yamato and Yukikaze are already out.

The Gamilus Cruiser is due out May 24th and the Lanbear carrier is due June 21st. Deslar's ship is due in July.

So what's this? Why is the new Mecha Collection going to have several ships from the White Comet Empire Gatlantis? Well, the big news at the Shizuoka Hobby Show this year is that the upcoming Yamato 2199 movie in December will be a side story in which the Yamato encounters the Gatlantians on their return trip home! I can't wait to see this when it hits theaters December 6th!

Left: This new Gamilus flagship is freaking HUGE.

Left: Soon we'll see the release of a 1:12 scale Analyzer. Right: Here is the new photoetched sheet for the 1:500 scale Yamato 2199 kit, only available for sale on Bandai's website. These will be made-to-order, so get your pre-orders in if you have the means.

Gundam models are rather popular, or so they say.

These HG Nemo and Jegan models look neat.

Left: At the Airsoft firing range. Right: Next stop is the Tamiya booth.

Here is Tamiya's new motorized WWI British tank. It's the same type of tank as seen in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.

Right: It's about time Tamiya made a medium-sized cutting mat!

Tamiya has come out with a new color of lacquer spray paint for this new Porsche car model. It has yet to be assigned a proper TS number.

Tamiya is the domestic Japanese distributor for Italeri kits.

Next stop: Platz! There's actually a Toyota car called Platz here in Japan. Anyway, Platz distributes many foreign models by Dragon (such as all the Marvel licensing you see here, and all the companies under the Round 2 umbrella (AMT, Moebius, Polar Lights, MPC, etc). They also sell Revell's Star Trek kits.

Platz makes their own models, too. Lots of tanks.

Wow. So many Iron Mans (Iron Men?)

So there are already plenty of F-14 Tomcat models out there, but this one is a direct movie tie-in to Top Gun. The box art makes it look like a child's toy, though. There's little incentive for me to buy this one, unless I'm a huge Jerry Bruckheimer fan or something.

Moebius's new classic Cylon Raider is huge-normous.

Dragon Slayer. I barely remember that movie from my childhood. I stayed up to watch it with my older sister on the now-defunct Spotlight cable channel. We then migrated to the family-friendly Festival channel (also defunct) until we eventually got Showtime. I don't know why I'm telling you this. I'm just suddenly nostalgic for defunct '80s cable channels, I guess.

Wow. The Relic was one of those '90s gore-fest action/horror movies. I never bothered watching it. Galaxy Quest, on the other hand, made me happy. By Graphtar's Hammer! I shall avenge you! ^_^

Nanoblocks are super cool! I was happy to see them make an appearance at Platz's booth. i don't remember seeing any last year.

Fine Molds had its Kaze Tachinu kits on display. Not much new, unless you're a tank buff. Like Platz, Fine Molds makes Girls Und Panzer kits. I don't care for that show. Moeblobs + tanks = FAIL.

At Hasegawa's booth, there were plenty of new kits on display, including these new Virtual On kits. There are now Gaia Notes colors to go with these to provide authentic paint jobs.

Captain Harlock! To the left is the Death Shadow and to the right is the Arcadia.

Left: So I've actually watched the first couple of episodes of Bodacious Space Pirates. It doesn't seem like the type of show I'd like, but I actually didn't mind it. Right: Ace Combat stuff.

1:48 scale Macross Max & Milia VF-1J Valkyries!

The new Eggplane is the MV-22 Osprey.

After looking at Hasegawa's sale tables, I went back to the private individuals' and clubs' exhibition hall.

A huge 1:12 scale Back to the Future DeLorean!

Left: This Osprey model was motorized and lit.

Left: It's the Spockmobile! Right: This RC car body features a Futari Wa Precure girl.

Left: The Twin Mustang by Hasegawa. This must've been the source of many conflicts back then. "Mom says I get to fly the plane today, and I want to head north." "No she didn't, you booger-eater! I say we fly south." "Oh yeah?" "YEAH!"

I went back to take more pictures of Dorobou Hige's displays.

This zombie diorama was rather intriguing!

This is the R-9A Arrowhead from the video game R-Type Delta and R-Type Final by Plum. I have this kit, but have yet to build it. I look forward to it!

Left: Carbunkle from Puyo Puyo is about to chow down on some curry! Right: Kotobukiya's Ikaruga model is in my stash and I look forward to building it!

A fantastic Gundam diorama.

Well, that's it for the 53rd annual 2014 Shizuoka Hobby Show! I'm happy to provide video and photographic coverage of this event for all those who can only hope to attend.
